The room was dim, the overhead lights off, only a small lamp glowing softly near the bed. Max stopped just inside the doorway.
The room smelt of bitter citrus peels, and the tang of salt. Max's nose crinkles at the scent of distress wafting off of the small figure on the bed.
Charles lay curled slightly on his side, knees drawn in, one arm tucked close to his chest. Too thin. Too still. There was a faint crease between his brows even in sleep, like his body didn’t know how to fully let go anymore. His hair looked limp, his eyes sunken. There were bruises visible on his skin, purple and yellow and green.
His other arm is curled protectively around his abdomen.

Summary

The new light illuminated the face's sharp features- features of a face he hasn't seen in over eight years.

Wind ruffles the broad figures long black hair, half of it tied up in a loose bun.

Koi no yokan 恋の予感: the feeling upon first meeting someone that you will inevitably fall in love with them.
~Light decides to take a little risk and seek a no-strings-attached hookup and gets a surprising (accidental) match. Light and L gradually open up to each other over the course of a night, not knowing who the other is. However, as they go back to their lives in the morning, suspicions take hold and secrets come to light. The chance meeting starts to feel a lot more like fate as L closes in on Kira, and both must decide whether they felt anything real for the other and what that means. Afterwards Rocky reassured me that it is pretty common for pebbles to earn their first nicks and cracks at that age. Their outer shell isn’t fully developed yet and not quite as hard as that of an adult. He proudly showed me various indents and hairline fractures on his own body, telling me about how he got them in his youth during adventures with his friends or just messing around.
It’s a sign of growth, he told me. A sign of getting older and maturing.
Not a big deal. Happens all the time.
I believe him. Tori was in good spirits afterwards. Their crying was more because of the shock and the scare, not any actual pain. We finished the rest of the day without any further incidents and then I wished them all a happy holiday and returned to my home and got into bed.
Where I stayed for the next eighteen hours.
