The most Black Hole and Pencil had ever interacted was in the shell-shocked aftermath of the Rift, sitting around dazed as the world around them somehow didn’t erupt into nothingness. Still, the idea of leaving her to an endless prison of her own making sat wrong with him, and Black Hole knew a little something about the way fear could grip you tight and refuse to let go.
His gravity released on the discarded book, dropping it onto one of the console’s buttons. A moment later, he was floating in vivid green grasslands instead. Pencil was mid-conversation with Match and Bubble, strained smile on her face as she turned around. The moment she saw him, it dropped.
“Hi.” Black Hole said.

Robert is then sent back to 4 months ago when he was still alone with all his memories intact. Robert now realises he has been given a chance to change things and to save Courtney.
