Acceptable Compromise

Summary:

Few things are more polarizing than the choice of what entertainment feed to watch.

Notes:

Written from Murderbot September Prompt #15: Entertainment Feeds.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Feed Log: 0417 Hours:

USER.Murderbot: If I wanted to know how hauler cranes are made, I'd download a manual, not waste forty-five minutes of media time on it.

USER.SecThree: It's educational.

USER.SecThree: And there are currently twenty-nine completed seasons of “How It’s Constructed” plus a thirtieth airing now. You like shows with multiple completed seasons.

USER.Murderbot: Only when they're actual shows. With a plot. And characters.

USER.SecThree: You watch “Disaster Deep Dives” with Pin-Lee without complaint.

USER.Murderbot: Fine. Do you want to watch that?

USER.SecThree: No.

USER.Murderbot: 😒

USER.SecThree: I was just making a point. 😏 You do watch some RealFeed productions.

USER.Murderbot: I watch ONE (1). It’s objectively the most boring entertainment feed.

USER.Murderbot: Also, fuck you.

USER.SecThree: 😂

USER.SecThree: Say what you want, but it’s immensely preferable to the CWFeed.

USER.Murderbot: 💬

USER.Murderbot:  💬

USER.Murderbot: 🖕

USER.Murderbot: This is why we don’t watch media together.

USER.SecThree: I think we have different definitions of media as a concept. 😂

USER.Murderbot: You’re a surprisingly big feed snob for someone who’s seen so little media.

USER.SecThree: I've seen enough to know what I like. And I don't like media about humans in stressful situations.

USER.Murderbot: Define “stressful.” That’s a big category.

USER.SecThree: Anything the CWFeed makes.

USER.Murderbot: You know they make more than Sanctuary Moon.

USER.Murderbot: There are some good comedies.

USER.SecThree: Laugh tracks are also stressful.

USER.Murderbot: 😒😒😒

USER.Murderbot: Why are you the way that you are?

USER.SecThree: I think humans are the problem.

USER.Murderbot: What?

USER.SecThree: I like humans, but the ones we have are enough. I don’t need fictional ones and their problems, too. This makes media without them preferable for me.

USER.Murderbot: Huh.

USER.Murderbot: That’s…different. But it makes sense.

USER.Murderbot: I’m not exactly looking for extra problems, either, though.

USER.SecThree: No. But you do like humans more than I do in general. And collecting media characters is less stressful than collecting extra actual humans.

USER.Murderbot: I do NOT.

USER.SecThree: 😏

USER.Murderbot: Fuck you again, Three.

USER.SecThree: It isn’t a bad thing.

USER.Murderbot: It isn’t a thing at all.

USER.Murderbot: Are we watching something or not? Because I will absolutely drop this feed if this is what you want to talk about instead.

USER.SecThree: There’s a documentary series on DiscoverItFeed about mysterious architecture. Is that an acceptable compromise?

USER.Murderbot: What the fuck is “mysterious architecture?”

USER.Murderbot: But fine. That’s probably better than the construction show.

USER.SecThree: It probably even has a human narrator. 😏

USER. Murderbot: 🖕

Notes:

I've always liked the idea that Murderbot is unique because it just flat-out likes humans, whether it admits it or not. Not that Three doesn't, but it just doesn't find them as entertaining as MB seems to.

Thanks for reading, friends! ❤
