Summary
Tony's pretty sure it's written into cosmic law somewhere: superheroes are not supposed be cute.
Apparently, no one's told these two.
He’s okay with that.

Summary
The bodyguard is incredibly well-respected in the superhero single parent community. He is also, Tony’s realizing, something of an asshole.

----
There’s always been something eerily bloodless about Batman, like he tried so hard to build a defensive wall out of himself that he shifted, brick by brick, into stone.
----
If you hollow out someone’s mind, what could you make them do? If someone lost everything, how much power would they give the one familiar face they saw? It’s that easy. That’s how it happens. Electrodes on bare skin, and you can unmake a hero and build up murderer.

There are no children left in Gotham.
Not until the multiverse spits one out right in front of Batman, at least.

Summary
A duty dodged is like a debt unpaid; it is only deferred, and we must come back and settle the account at last.—Joseph F. Newton
"This is a monumentally bad idea," Simon said.
"You'd rather I pick one of the garden-grown guides from the safe little enclave?" Jim answered his boss. He was lucky to have a sentinel captain who cared enough to follow him to Earth, but they just couldn't see eye to eye on this one issue.
"Some of the best guides come from good old Earth, and you saw the training they go through."
"I don't feel any of them, Simon."
"Jim—" Simon started, but Rafe tightened his hand on Simon's arm and faced Jim.
"Let him search. However, the rumors of sentinels tracking down the perfect guide—they're rumors, fantasies."
Jim glared at his captain's guide.
"On Divitia or Terra, without guide programs, maybe the old ways work. If you had caught a scent of guide there, I would say you had a chance to track one. But here? So many sentinels visit. If guides were anywhere around Patria, a sentinel would have reported it. The city guard would have tracked them. They would be in the enclave training because no one lives out there if they have a choice."
