Summary
For as long as Buck can remember, Eddie’s ability to express himself has left him in awe—the way that, although it sometimes takes a minute for him to get there, whenever he’s ready, he’ll rip his heart out of his own chest and present it on a silver platter. With a thumb pressed to Buck’s pulse point—or both—and deep, warm, earnest eyes.
Buck has never been like that—he goes all out before he’s even sure what he feels; he’s dramatic and emotional, and clingy, and his emotions often run his actions miles ahead of his brain. (Not that he hasn’t come to terms with that by now—he is who he is, and he’s learned to appreciate it.) The interesting thing is, though—despite his regular habit of rushing things to beat his tendency to overthink in a lap around the racetrack—for once, tonight, his brain feels… quiet. Calm.

Summary
A warmth blooms in Phil’s chest, spreading through his whole body, and he wraps both arms around Dan, holding him close. Their London flat doesn’t feel so far away now. They’re in an unfamiliar place, in a hotel where they had to book a room with two beds, but they’ve made it their own just the same. For tonight, they’ve turned a double room in a hotel in Philadelphia into some semblance of home.

Buck should be furious. All their planning, all the hard work and buried emotions and lying to get where they are. Buck should be furious.
He's sitting on a sound stage, lights beating down on him, sweat beading on his forehead, heart pounding in his chest as Eddie's voice echoes in his head over and over and over while the crowd is deathly silent, and god damn it, Buck should be furious.
“Roger,” Ryan Seacrest says, pausing for dramatic effect as his eyes flicker between the duo in front of him, “For twenty five thousand dollars,” another pause that feels like it stretches into eternity, long enough for Buck to tear his gaze away from the couple to the man sitting to his left, to try and catch his eye and ultimately get nowhere. “When did Kristy realize she was in love?”
It was love at first sight.
That’d been Buck’s answer. They’d rehearsed it.

There’s an itch under Dan’s skin, the way there always is when he goes to visit his mother. Just a little thing, uncomfortable, like the world has tipped gently sideways. The infrequent occasions where he does go to visit, he nearly always goes alone. For obvious reasons.
