“Ah, I am talking to my catfish.”
“What do you mean, your catfish?” Ilya angles the phone so Sveta can see the shirtless picture on the screen.
“This guy is pretending to be Shane Hollander on Grindr. It’s pretty funny. He’s cropped the face out, but he’s using pictures from the billboard next to my apartment.”
Or: Ilya Rozanov is sure he's being catfished- why would the real Shane Hollander be on Grindr, talking to random university of Ottawa students? But the more he talks to Wayne, the more he starts to like him, and the more he wishes Wayne would just come clean so they can finally be together.

Summary
At his mom’s insistence that he needs to consider a life after hockey, Shane decides to go to BU and play hockey for the Terriers before going into the NHL, while Ilya, desperate to get out of Russia, goes straight into the NHL. Yet fate has its ways, and Shane stumbles into a friendship with a group of Russian international students. Sometimes life is playing 3D chess just to get you to your person.
Note: for the purposes of this fic, we’re going to pretend that the recent increase in hockey players playing in college before the NHL instead of major junior hockey happened much earlier in the timeline.
I have no idea how many chapters this will end up being, but for now it's just the opening part!

Shane’s good at his job.
Really, he is.
Five and a half years at Allocare and he’s learned to talk the talk and walk the walk. He’s good. His team lead tells him he’s going to make that promotion this year, actually - managing accounts is easy, and he’s got a rhythm now.
Ilya Rozanov, on the other hand, isn’t easy. Shane’s pretty sure he’s come straight from hell itself if he’s honest - now there’s only one thing standing between Shane and the promotion he’s gunning for, and it’s his brand new, 6’3 Russian client with no regards for professional boundaries.
He has a good mouth, though.
