Summary
Ilya Rozanov loves his job and loves his students. Four years in, he's hitting his stride, and he's grateful for the place he's built for himself at Metropolitan High School.
But down the hall is Shane Hollander. Perfect at everything and constantly pushing Ilya to improve, he's also Ilya's biggest distraction. He doesn't know what to do with his feelings for Hollander, especially when Hollander could never feel the same.
Struggling with his identity both in and out of school, Ilya can't afford to get swept up in Hollander, but it's exactly that which takes him out of his head.

Ilya knew it was too early to propose to Shane, he knew that. His beautiful, boring boyfriend might’ve planned out the next ten years and beyond retirement, but Ilya also knew that Shane was not great with unexpected changes. If Ilya moved too quickly with this, he would spook Shane and that was the last thing he wanted to do.

Caller: The water looks so peaceful. [liquid swishing, glass clinking] I want to be peaceful.
