Summary
A young Bruce Wayne travels to Metropolis to try to gather more information about a mysterious new hero, Superman. After his first attempt—questioning reporter Clark Kent in his hotel room—proves fruitless, he returns to his original plan to meet the man himself. Long aware of a kidnapping plot, Bruce allows himself to be taken captive in hopes that Superman will rescue him. While Superman does make an appearance, nothing else goes according to plan.

Summary
Rather than being killed by Doomsday, Clark is badly wounded, and infected with kryptonite that has been corrupted via Doomsday's blood. In the aftermath of the fight, with nobody realising the extent of the damage, Clark and Bruce attempt to build something like a working friendship, with Bruce shrugging off the alterations in Clark's behaviour as post-traumatic reaction from having been nearly killed, until Clark, who has been giving in to urges to take what he really wants regardless of the cost to other people, decides to take something he's been wanting since the fight: Batman.

Bruce was stalling. Clark knelt in the tub of his apartment’s tiny bathroom, arms folded on the ceramic lip, hiding his grin, glasses balanced further on the edge, watching as Bruce studied the sink and the mirrored cabinet as though it held the secrets to the universe. Bruce’s suit jacket was somewhere in the living room, and his blue shirt was rolled up to his elbows, but he was still far too dressed up for what Clark had thought was an obvious proposition.
“Bruce,” Clark prompted, as seriously as he could. It was proving surprisingly hard to keep a straight face when naked and chest-deep in warm water.
“I’ve always wondered,” Bruce said mildly, without even looking over, as though both of them were having a casual conversation over lunch. “How the hell do you shave?”

Summary
Clark knew that ‘Bruce Wayne’ was an act, one that was decades-old, that smile, the clothes, even the way Bruce stood, slightly hunched, making his imposing height look less threatening. The blank look in his eyes, the limp handshake, the lazy guileless smile: they were all as much Bruce’s armour as his suit’s vambraces and cowl. Some days, though, watching Bruce work the rounds, Clark wasn’t entirely sure if Bruce himself remembered where the mask stopped and where the real Bruce bled in. The ballerina’s lipstick left a red smear on Bruce’s pristine white collar, and Bruce looked at it and laughed, delighted, drunken. Clark looked away, a sour clench in his gut. He was going to have to leave or something was going to break.

When Bruce said that he doesn’t not like Clark, Clark only thought it meant that Bruce tolerates him. Of course, now Clark knows that Bruce is actually just a big old teddy bear who spoils Barry and tries to hide from Alfred when it’s time to sleep. He’s realized that Bruce does actually like people and that he might be one of those people.
Still, liking someone platonically is very much different from liking someone romantically, and Clark never would have thought that the latter would ever happen with Bruce. It's why he doesn’t think he could have been prepared for Bruce flirting with him, or Clark flirting back, even if they were both sixteen at the time.
